Dragon’s Breath add an “extra dimension” to the National Honey Show

I had a brilliant time at the National Honey Show with the opportunity of talking with some amazing people.  Min at the National Honey ShowSales were fantastic as people understood about the beneficial properties of natural beeswax candles.  Dragon’s Breath received praise from the chairman of the show, saying that we “added an extra dimension” to the show.  Many many people praised the quality of my beeswax candles and how attractively packaged and presented they are.

Try them for yourself – contact me.

Click on the link to the National Honey Show and look at the slide shows, especially 2, 3 and 6 where Dragon’s Breath natural beeswax candles are photographed.  Also have a look at slide show 6 where the cups are presented; I particularly liked the pyramid display which was beautiful and the honey looked like gold as the sun shone through the window onto it.  Also well done to Chalfonts Beekeepers for a successful event and winning so many awards.

I would also like to thank my willing helpers: Lou, Jane and Derek, staff and other traders for the support, laughter and camaraderie during the three days.

If you visited my stand and picked up a card or bought candles or a candle making kit – thank you.  Please leave a comment to let me know your thoughts.

National Honey Show 28th – 30th October

My home is full of the beautiful scent of beeswax as I make the final preparations for the National Honey Show tomorrow.  Dragon’s Breath will be there, and I will be selling our very popular Christmas candles.

Remember, Dragon’s Breath beeswax candles burn much more slowly than parafin candles and they do not give off the toxins that the parafin counterparts.   Natural beeswax candles also give a warm glow, and being non drip, will be exactly what you need on your Christmas dinner table or to light your cosy evenings by the fire.

See you at the show, or contact me for candles by post.

Flight of the Bumble Bee

Our honey bees have been really busy lately, working in the autumn sunshine, collecting the last pollen for their winter store.  And from the sound of it, the activity in the hive was buzzing – a bit like this really!!!

And Autumn means that the evenings are drawing in, just perfect time to light some Dragon’s Breath natural beeswax candles.

Make sure your beeswax candles are 100%

Because beeswax takes much longer to produce, it is considerably more expensive (and much healthier for you) than paraffin wax.  When you buy a candle, you may be tricked into paying more for one that is not 100% beeswax.  Check to see if it says 100% beeswax because you can be fairly certain that if it doesn’t say it, it isn’t!  It would appear that even by just having 10% beeswax, and surrounding it in paraffin, this can be classed as a beeswax candle which would not give you the beautiful smell, longlasting and clean burning properties and health benefits of burning the 100% natural beeswax candles.

You can be assured that all Dragon’s Breath candles are handmade using 100% natural beeswax – always!

Paraffin Candle use linked to cancer risk

Candle-lit dinners may be romantic, but researchers are warning they could be harmful to health.

South Carolina State University experts analysed the fumes released by burning candles in lab tests.  They found paraffin wax candles gave off harmful fumes linked to lung cancer and asthma – but admitted it would take many years’ use to risk health.

Paraffin-based candles produced “clear sharp peaks” for many chemicals, mainly because burning candles does not produce high enough temperatures to combust hazardous molecules such as toluene and benzene.

The scientists suggested switching to candles made from beeswax or soy, which did not release significant levels of the chemicals.

Petroleum candles can overwhelm sensitive people – beeswax candles are a healthier option

Look for all-natural candles made of soy or beeswax. Because although candles may be soothing and romantic, they can have a dark side.Conventional candles are made of petroleum-based waxes, like paraffin, and are usually loaded with synthetic dyes and artificial fragrances.  These fragrances can overwhelm sensitive people, and can become indoor air pollutants over time. Cheaper wicks may still even contain traces of heavy metals, which can get released into the air during combustion.

Instead, look for candles made of truly renewable, safer materials, such as soy or beeswax.  Dragon’s Breath candles are made using 100% natural beeswax.  Your healthier option.

Bastiat’s famous (?) Candlemakers’ petition

(Originally published in 1845) A PETITION From the Manufacturers of Candles, Tapers, Lanterns, sticks, Street Lamps, Snuffers, and Extinguishers, and from Producers of Tallow, Oil, Resin, Alcohol, and Generally of Everything Connected with Lighting.

“To the Honourable Members of the Chamber of Deputies. …  We ask you to be so good as to pass a law requiring the closing of all windows, dormers, skylights, inside and outside shutters, curtains, casements, bull’s-eyes, deadlights, and blinds — in short, all openings, holes, chinks, and fissures through which the light of the sun is wont to enter houses, to the detriment of the fair industries with which, we are proud to say, we have endowed the country, a country that cannot, without betraying ingratitude, abandon us today to so unequal a combat.

First, if you shut off as much as possible all access to natural light, and thereby create a need for artificial light, what industry in France will not ultimately be encouraged?
